Is The Fort Worth Stockyards Area Worth It? (Why It’s My Favorite Place In Texas)
Planning A Trip To North Texas And Wondering If The Cowboy Town Of Fort Worth And The Famous Stockyards Here Are Worth Visiting?
When I was living in Dallas, one of my favorite places to visit was the Fort Worth Stockyards because I really love the bull riding and rodeos they do here, so I definitely think it’s worth visiting, but here are all the details so you can decide for yourself if it’s worth adding to your Texas itinerary.
๐ค Is It Worth Visiting The Fort Worth Stockyards?

The Fort Worth Stockyards are one of the most famous sites to visit in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and alongside some of the JFK historical sites, it’s one of my personal favorite places to visit in the Dallas region and the state of Texas in general.
Why It Definitely Is

Although it’s a bit touristy and can get very crowded during certain times of the year, I think the Fort Worth Stockyards are 100% worth visiting because:
- they give you a great look at western/cowboy culture that used to cover the state of Texas
- they have western sporting events like rodeos, bull riding, and bull fighting (where they just do tricks with the bulls, they don’t hurt them), which are my favorite things to see here
- you can see a slower version of a cattle drive at the twice daily event down the main street of the Stockyards (weather and holiday permitting)
- there are unique seasonal events/activities, especially for Christmas time like ice skating, photos with cowboy Santa, and special bull riding events
- Fort Worth is located fairly close to Dallas so the Stockyards are pretty easy to get to on your own, or really easy to explore on one of the many available guided tours
- the Stockyards have lots of great kids activities in addition to those listed above (like a vintage train, a petting zoo, a maze, etc.), so it’s a very family friendly area
- there are also some interesting museums here like the Stockyards museum, the John Wayne: An American Experience museum, and the Bull Riding Hall of Fame
Why It Might Not Be

I definitely think they’re worth checking out, but you might not find them worth visiting if you aren’t that interested in western/cowboy culture, western sports (like rodeos or bull riding), western history, or if you’re visiting Dallas without a car and you don’t think any of the guided tours sound very interesting.
๐ How Many Days Do You Need In Fort Worth?

I think the Fort Worth Stockyards can easily be visited on a day trip, even if you also plan to attend a rodeo or bull riding event, and I think you can see a few of the other interesting sites in Fort Worth (like the grave of Lee Harvey Oswald and Ben Hogan, or the Fort Worth Zoo) on that day trip too.
But if you’d prefer to stay over in Fort Worth, it can actually be a better place to stay for some reasons compared to the larger city of Dallas.
๐ Sum Up: Is It Worth Visiting The Fort Worth Stockyards?
I love the Fort Worth Stockyards because I love watching bull riding and rodeos, but I think it’s definitely worth visiting for anyone that wants to experience a little more of that western Texas cowboy culture and have some fun watching farm animals and cowboys.
