Where Is The Christmas Capital Of Texas? (Plus Other Festive Areas)
Planning On Visiting Texas During Christmas Time And Wondering Where The Christmas Capital Of The State Is?
I’ve lived in four different areas around the state of Texas, plus visited lots of other areas, but out of all of them, there were two that stood out to me as the most Christmassy and one that even has a little neighborhood that is considered (by them) to be the Christmas Capital of Texas.
๐ Where Is The Christmas Capital Of Texas?

The little neighborhood town of Grapevine, in the greater Dallas area, claims the title as the Christmas Capital of Texas, because they really do go all out for decorating, lights, and all other Christmas themed activities.
The entire Dallas-Fort Worth area does a pretty good job of celebrating and decorating for the Christmas season (see more details further down) so this whole area could potentially be considered the Christmas Capital of Texas.
Best Things To Do In Grapevine For Christmas

Since the town of Grapevine is considered (at least by themselves) as the Christmas Capital of Texas, what exactly can you do here to get in the Christmas spirit?
- Drive down Main Street – after it gets dark and the lights come on, take a drive down Main Street to see this little town (pictured above)
- Ride a Vintage Train – take the Grapevine Vintage Train which normally runs to the Fort Worth stockyards (where you can see the cattle drive, watch a rodeo, or just experience some of this western culture), but at Christmas time it turns into Santa’s North Pole Express
- Watch a Holiday Movie – watch a classic holiday movie in the Lancaster Theatre on Main Street
- Ice Skate – at the Peace Plaza Rink
- Visit the Grapevine Christmas Market – buy food and drinks, official merchandise, get Christmas card photo-ops, and ride Santa’s North Pole Express Carousel
- Visit the The Palace Theatre – see Christmas concerts and other live performances, watch classic Christmas movies, or watch Christmas cartoons with the kids while they do crafts
- Experience a Victorian Christmas – at the historic Nash Farm
- Stay in the Christmas Capital of Texas – the Hotel Vin is located right off of Main Street in Grapevine so it’s the perfect place to be as close to all the action as you can; the Gaylord Texan Resort is a huge resort property still located in Grapevine but a little further away, although they have their own set of big Christmas events (2 million pounds of ice sculptures, Christmas characters, 2 million+ lights, ice tubing, snowballs, and more)
๐ Where Else Can You See Christmas Events/Lights/Decorations In Texas?

The whole state of Texas does a pretty good job of celebrating the Christmas season, so here are a few other places you can get that Christmassy feeling around the state.
Where To See Them In The Dallas/Fort Worth Area

Within the Dallas-Fort Worth area, there are lots of ways to celebrate the Christmas season:
- The Gift of Christmas Show – every year the Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas puts on one of the best and biggest Christmas shows with volunteer and paid performers, plus stories/songs from Santa all the way to the birth of Jesus
- Highland Park – the fancier neighborhood of Highland Park puts out some high class Christmas decorations, and the Highland Park Village area gets super bright with lights for the season, plus they do horse carriage rides
- Deerfield – the neighborhood of Deerfield in Plano, Texas, is probably one of the best, but also most crowded, neighborhoods to go walking or driving through to see Christmas lights; it’s so popular that they even have horse carriages to ride in too
- Fort Worth – the nearby city of Fort Worth is a place worth visiting on it’s own to see the Stockyards and really experience western culture, but during Christmas time they get one of the tallest Christmas trees in the country, have a cowboy Santa in the Stockyards, and have other Christmas activities like ice skating
Where To See Them In Other Parts Of Texas

Here are a few other interesting places you can celebrate the Christmas season around the state of Texas:
- Burnet – the town of Burnet in central Texas has a church, First Baptist Church Burnet, that recreates the town of Bethlehem (pictured above) to provide an interactive live action scene of the birth of Jesus
- Austin – the capital city of Austin can be worth visiting for a number of reasons, but during Christmas it gets pretty festive with lots of decorated neighborhoods and the famous Trail of Lights event in Zilker Park
- College Station – Santa’s Wonderland comes alive in the college town of College Station
- Fredericksburg – a mix of German Christmas traditions with Texas ones at the Fredericksburg’s Christmas Nights of Lights
๐ Sum Up: Where Is The Christmas Capital Of Texas?
While the town of Grapevine considers itself the Christmas Capital of Texas, there are actually a lot of places around the state that really go all out for the Christmas season with huge production shows, reenactments of the birth of Jesus, lots of lights and decorations, and even a cowboy Santa, so there are plenty of ways to really get into the Christmas spirit down in the Lone Star State.
