Fun Things To Do In Key West Florida
Planning Your Trip To Key West, Florida And Wondering What Are The Best Fun Things To Do Here?
When I drove down from South Florida to visit Key West, I was mostly interested in one activity here, but I was still able to find a few other fun things to see and do during my trip.
๐ Fun Things To Do In Key West Florida

I don’t think you need too much time in Key West, Florida because there aren’t an endless amount of things to do here, but I do think it’s still worth visiting for a few of the fun options that you can find here:
1. Snorkel At A Coral Reef

My number one reason for visiting Key West was so that I could go snorkeling at the only living coral reef in the continental United States, and my experience here turned out to be a fantastic one.
On the boat ride over I said how cool it would be to safely see sharks out there, and that’s exactly what happened.
While I was snorkeling with three others a little further away from where the main group was, two sharks (I was told by the staff they were bull sharks) showed up and we safely got to see them, and I did my best to get a few photos of them (pictured above).
I went out with the Fury Key West Snorkel tour and had a great time so I definitely recommend them.
2. Ride The Conch Train

The Old Town area of Key West (the best, most convenient area to stay) is very walkable so I don’t think you need a rental car or even to use Uber other than getting to/from the airport, but it can get super hot in Key West at certain times of the year so walking can be exhausting.
If you want to see the Key West sites during the day but don’t want to get super tired, the Key West Conch Train or the Key West Trolley are both fun ways to get around town and they have hop on/hop off options.
3. Fish Or Eat Fish

Being surrounded by water, Key West is the perfect place to go fishing or just eat fish if you prefer not to do the work to catch them.
You can find pretty reasonably priced fishing tours here, like this one that’s about 5 hours and under $100.
4. Get Out On The Water

The best things to do in Key West, Florida definitely revolve around the water and there are so many ways you can get out there and have a fun adventurous experience.
Just a few of the water activities you can choose from include:
- and much more
5. See Some Key West History

While most of a Key West trip revolves around water activities, a few other fun things you can see/do in town revolve around Key West culture and history.
In the 1930s, famed writer Ernest Hemingway lived in Key West and his former home is now a museum (pictured above). You can see the home on your own, or have a 4-hour Hemingway Experience.
Other historical/cultural sites you can see in Key West include:
- Fort Zachary Taylor
- Truman Little White House
- USCGC Ingham Maritime Museum
- Mel Fisher Maritime Museum
- Key West Shipwreck Museum
- the Southernmost Point in the continental US
- Dry Tortugas National Park
6. Attend A Key West Event
Key West is home to a few unique events that some might find interesting (crowds like this aren’t my thing so I’m not a fan but others love them) like the Key Lime Wedge Drop at New Years Eve, Key West Fantasy Fest, Hemingway Days, and the Key Lime Festival.
7. Do A Florida Keys Road Trip

Although it’s technically leaving Key West, one of my favorite parts about visiting this town was the coastal road trip I took to get out there and back. I just love riding along the water with the windows down and music playing.
Before or after visiting Key West, it’s easy to add on a road trip to other parts of Florida like Miami, Palm Beach County, Western Florida (Naples, Venice Beach, Sarasota, Tampa), or even the theme park destination of Orlando.
๐ Sum Up: Fun Things To Do In Key West Florida
Although there isn’t an endless amount of things to do in Key West, Florida, there are still some fun activities and places to visit like the only living coral reef in the continental US, the southern most point of the continental US, Hemingways Home, and Dry Tortugas National Park.
