I was living in South Florida when I took a road trip down to Key West, and although I visited during one of the cheapest times, it can also be the worst time to visit, but thankfully I got lucky and had a perfect trip.
🤑 What Are The Cheapest Times To Visit Key West, Florida?
The cheapest times to visit Key West, Florida are when the weather is hot, humid, and unpredictable.
From summer through fall, you’ll find the best prices for Key West and have a very budget-friendly trip (in comparison), but there’s a catch, the weather might ruin your plans or become quite dangerous during these months.
I visited Key West during one of the cheapest times, August, when it’s super hot, rain is more likely, and big storms are possible, but I got lucky and had perfect weather (other than the heat) and got to save some money on hotels and activities.

🌀 When Is The Worst Time To Visit Key West?
Because the weather isn’t as pleasant and could ruin plans, the summer and fall months are also considered the worst times to visit, with August or September being possibly the worst time because of the higher average number of rainy days (14 in August and 15 in September).

When Is Hurricane Season In Key West?
Hurricane season in Key West runs from anytime between May and November with fall often being the time for bigger, more powerful storms.
I’ve gone through two hurricanes in Florida (a category 1 and a category 3) and I’ve been fine being more inland (I was about 20 minutes from the beach on the east side of Florida), but with Key West sticking way out in the ocean and not having much land protection, I definitely wouldn’t want to be here when a hurricane was coming through.
➡️ To save even more money, I suggest visiting Key West without a rental car because it’s not really necessary in the very walkable Old Town area (where everything is located)
☀️ When Is The Best Time To Visit Key West, Florida?
For the nice sunny weather, the best time to visit Key West, Florida is during the winter and spring seasons but this also makes it the most crowded and the most expensive times to visit.
If you can afford it, definitely go during these months, but if you want a little of the best of both worlds, I think late November, late April, and early May would have the least amount of crowds combined with the best weather.

The cheapest times to visit Key West, Florida are also the more iffy when it comes to weather, but if you get lucky or have flexible plans, visiting during the summer and fall seasons can turn out to be a great time to travel here. I visited during August and got lucky with the weather, but for a more certain pleasant weather experience, I’d suggest visiting in winter or spring, although there will be more crowds and it will be more expensive.
