Visiting Key West And Wanting To Go On A Fury Snorkel Tour To The Coral Reef, But Looking For More Info Before Booking?

When I was living in South Florida, I was constantly out exploring and spending lots of time outdoors and on the water, but one of my favorite trips was down to Key West where my main interest was going on a Fury snorkel tour so I could go out to the only coral reef in the continental US. I had an amazing time and thought it was definitely worth the trip, but here’s my review to help you decide if it’ll be worth it for your upcoming vacation.

✅ Pros Of The Fury Key West Snorkel Tour

My trip out on the Fury snorkel tour is still one of the best snorkeling experiences I’ve ever had, and I highly recommend taking a trip out to the reef when visiting Key West, no matter what tour company you go with, but these are the positives of my snorkel tour with Fury Key West:

Reef Snorkeling

I was slightly terrified but mostly super excited to swim with sharks at the reef.

The main and honestly only reason I needed for choosing to go on the Fury snorkel tour was that they take you to the only living coral reef in the continental US (just under 10 miles off shore from Key West) where you can go snorkeling for an hour or so.

Just before I got off the boat into the water I was saying how cool it would be to safely see some sharks while out snorkeling, and my wish came true when I saw two of what I was told were bull sharks (one blurry-ily pictured above).

This experience swimming next to sharks has always been one of my main bucket list desires, so my experience here in Key West will always be remembered as one of my most exciting adventures.

➡️ There isn’t an endless amount of things to do in Key West, but this coral reef is what makes it well worth the visit in my opinion

Price

Compared to other tours available in Key West, the Fury snorkel tour is pretty reasonable.

Compared to other similar length snorkeling tours in Key West, the Fury snorkel tour is very reasonably priced because they can fit so many on their boat, making the cost of the tour pretty low, though tips are not included.

➡️ Key West can be a pretty expensive place to visit in high season (especially with hotels), but there is a catch if you want to visit during the cheapest time of the year

Guides

Despite being a large boat with lots of passengers, the guides were all really nice and helpful on the tour.

Although this snorkeling tour has a pretty large capacity, there were a number of workers there to help get you ready to go snorkeling as well as help with questions or concerns in the water.

All of the guides were really friendly when I went, and they were the ones that told me what kind of sharks it looked like when I showed them the pictures (there wasn’t hardly anyone else around when the sharks showed up).

❌ Cons Of The Fury Key West Snorkel Tour

The Fury Key West Snorkel Tour, is one of the best options because you get to go snorkeling at the reef if the weather permits.

Although there are technically more cons to consider for the Fury snorkeling tour in Key West, none of them change the fact that you get to snorkel at the only living coral reef in the continental US, so I personally think it’s still very much worth the trip, but here are some downsides to consider first:

  • Size: this is a very large tour so the number of tickets sold can be pretty high, which isn’t the best, but it does make the cost low
  • Open Ocean: I was super happy to get out in the water, but some other passengers on board weren’t so excited to go swimming in the open ocean, especially after spotting some sharks
  • Location Change: the biggest selling point of this Key West tour is getting to snorkel at the coral reef, but if weather conditions aren’t great (typically from wind), the company will change snorkeling locations which would be a huge downer if you were looking forward to the reef

🔁 Sum Up: Fury Key West Snorkel Tour

While the Fury snorkeling tour from Key West is on the shorter side and can get quite crowded, I had one of the best experiences with them because they go to the only living coral reef in the continental US where I was able to snorkel with sharks and not spend too much money since the tour is very reasonably priced. But no matter which tour you go with, I highly recommend taking one out to the coral reef while visiting Key West.
