Visiting Pensacola, Florida And Wondering If The Naval Aviation Museum Is Worth Taking A Break From The Beach For?

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Pensacola, I even have family that lives here, so going to the Naval Aviation Museum was one of the first activities I wanted to do when visiting. I wasn’t expecting much from a free museum, but after visiting, I definitely think that the Naval Aviation Museum is worth taking the time to see on any trip to the Pensacola, Florida area.

✈️ Why The Naval Aviation Museum In Pensacola Is Worth Visiting

Pensacola is very proud of its connections to the Navy and the Blue Angels (there are symbols and decorations of them all over town), and visiting the Naval Aviation Museum here is highly recommended for a number of reasons:

It’s Free

It's entirely free to visit, though there are some paid activities, but they even have a free guided tour.

One of the best things about the Naval Aviation Museum is that it’s completely free to visit, though there are some paid activities like movies and special experiences that you can add on if you want. There is even a free guided tour of the museum which I thought was nice, but a little slow and not so engaging for kids or those with ADHD.

It’s A Massive Museum

As far as bang for your buck goes, the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola is definitely worth visiting because it's massive and free.

When thinking of a free museum, I expected the Naval Aviation Museum to be fairly small and not too interesting, but I was completely wrong.

It’s such a massive museum with multiple hangars to explore, tons of aircrafts to look at up close, and lots of other entertaining experiences. To really explore everything in the museum, at least a couple of hours is recommended.

You Can Watch The Blue Angels Practice From Here

During their season, the Blue Angels practice right here and offer free viewing of the shows.

The Blue Angels practice shows are super fun to watch and you can watch them from the Naval base right at the museum on certain days. It does get very crowded on Blue Angels practice days, but on select days you can even meet the pilots, so it’s a really fun experience for all ages.

It’s A Perfect Cool + Indoor Activity

If you're visiting Pensacola in the summer, the Naval Aviation Museum is worth visiting just to get out of the sun and have a nice, cool indoor activity.

If you’re visiting Pensacola during the warmer months of the year, it can be brutally hot outside so having some cool indoor activities really helps break up a typically beach-centered trip.

All of the hangars for the Naval Aviation Museum are air-conditioned, but if you plan to attend one of the Blue Angels practice shows, viewing for those is going to be outdoors.

There Are Lots Of Special Events/Activities

I got to cross something off my bucket list when visiting because I got to meet a WW2 vet at the museum.

I was super excited that I happened to randomly visit on a day that the WW2 vet pictured above was doing one of his regular meet and greets at the museum. I was able to cross off meeting a WW2 vet from my bucket list and it wasn’t even anything I had planned!

The museum also has other activities and experiences like movies, flight simulators, and cockpit trainers.
