Best Place To Watch Blue Angels Practice (& Everything Else You’ll Need To Know)
Visiting The Pensacola or Destin, Florida Areas And Wondering Where’s The Best Place To Watch The Blue Angels Practice?
I’ve spent a lot of time in Pensacola and I’ve been able to watch the Blue Angels practice here from a few different locations, so to help you figure out the best place to watch the Blue Angels practice, I’ve listed out some important information to know as well as some local tips to help make your experience even better.
๐ Where Do The Blue Angels Practice?

The home base for the famous Blue Angels air shows is in northwest Florida in the town of Pensacola. While they do go on “tour” around the country for air shows, they live and practice right here in Pensacola.
The planes are flown out of the Naval military base on the southwest side of town, from the NAS Pensacola/Forrest Sherman Field.
*๏ธโฃ FAQ: Can You See The Blue Angels Practice From Destin? You cannot see the Blue Angels practice shows from Destin, Florida, in fact, you can barely see the planes from certain parts of Pensacola (you can hear them though)
๐ How Often Do The Blue Angels Practice In Pensacola?

For about 7 months of the year, the Blue Angels pilots (which are active military members) do practice shows during the week, usually on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in Pensacola.
Though they don’t have shows every single week, there are usually around 40 practice shows between the months of April and October, plus two official local air shows in July and November.
The July Pensacola airshow is special because it takes place on Pensacola Beach so people are able to enjoy the show while sitting in the sand. The November Pensacola airshow is special because it is the homecoming show for the Blue Angles at the end of their season.
โ๏ธ Best Place To Watch The Blue Angels Practice In Pensacola

The best place to watch the Blue Angels practice with the closest view is definitely at the National Naval Aviation Museum on the Naval base right where the planes take off. This location can get very busy though and will even temporarily close access once the parking lot fills up, so here are some other locations:
- the second best place to watch the Blue Angels practice is at the very tip of the Fort Pickens National Park area (I watched a show here and had great views with some fly overs right above my head)
- another great option is to rent a boat and watch the show from the water in Pensacola Bay
- the Perdido Key area also stretches out almost to where Fort Pickens is, but driving access only goes so far on this little strip of land
- if you’re in downtown Pensacola, you might be able to get a little glimpse of the planes a few times during the show, but this area is starting to get too far from the base
- and unless you’re there for the Pensacola Beach air show in July, you won’t be able to see the planes from the beach but you’ll probably still hear them
*๏ธโฃ Tip: Lots of Airbnb’s claim you can watch the Blue Angels practice from their house/apartment, but most are lying; one place I stayed specifically said you could see the show from the balcony, but you literally could barely see tiny specks in the sky, so don’t plan on watching from your rental or you’ll be bummed
๐ How To Watch The Blue Angels Practice

If you want to go to the best place to watch the Blue Angels practice up close, at the National Naval Aviation Museum, here are a few tips to help you out:
- shows typically start at 10:30am but you’ll want to arrive early, around gate opening time (9:30am), to make sure you get in and to get a good spot
- if you have little ones or you think it would be cool to meet the pilots, pick one of the air show days that is an autograph day (there’ll be a little * on the day on the Naval Aviation website)
- prepare for extremely hot weather; bring lots of water, wear light colored clothes, bring an umbrella, etc.
- don’t forget to bring some non-toxic sunscreen because it’s really easy to get sunburned in Pensacola
- prepare for loud noises; if you’re ears are sensitive make sure to bring some earplugs or headphones to help with the loud noises of the planes
- make sure anyone over the age of 18 brings their ID so they are allowed to enter the base, and know that foreigners must be accompanied by a US citizen
- plan to check out the Naval Aviation Museum after the show because it’s a really cool museum that’s completely free to visit
*๏ธโฃ Tip: before visiting, watch Top Gun, the sequel Top Gun Maverick (my favorite), the Blue Angels documentary, or Top Guns Next Generation to get in the flying mood
โฑ How Long Is The Blue Angels Practice Show?
The actual Blue Angels practice air show only lasts about 55 minutes, but if you’re wanting to watch the show from the best place (the Naval Aviation Museum) or even the second best place (Fort Pickens), you’ll want to arrive early.
๐ Sum Up: Best Place To Watch Blue Angels Practice
If you’re anywhere in the Pensacola or Destin areas of northwest Florida during the warmer months of the year (March-ish through November), I highly recommend checking out the National Naval Aviation Museum, because it’s the best place to watch the Blue Angels practice up close, plus it’s an awesome free museum to explore.
