Is There Any Good Hiking In Cabo San Lucas Mexico?
Looking For Things To Add To Your Itinerary For Cabo San Lucas, Mexico And Wondering If There Is Any Good Hiking Around?
While living in Colombia I fell in love with hiking so now I always want to find hiking (or at least walking) options wherever I’m traveling to. My last visit to Cabo San Lucas included a strenuous but cool hike, so there are definitely some interesting hiking options in this part of Mexico.
⛰ Does Cabo San Lucas Have Good Hiking?

Unlike some other beach destinations in Mexico (like Cancun), the Los Cabos area (including Cabo San Lucas) is a very mountainous region so there are definitely some good hiking options around.
The city of Cabo itself isn’t that large in size so there are technically only a few options here, but the surrounding Baja California Sur region has even more.
➡️ Cabo also has pretty great year round surfing and they have some great horseback riding options too (among other exciting adventurous activities)
🥾 Free Hikes You Can Do On Your Own In Cabo

Although it’s not always the best or safest idea to go out exploring on your own in a country like Mexico, these are some free hikes you can do on your own in the Cabo-ish area:
- Cerro de la Z – right in the middle of Cabo San Lucas, this hiking trail is short but gives you great views of the city and the ocean
- Cabo San Lucas Lighthouse – pretty easy and short hike up to the old lighthouse
- Cerro de las Antenas – medium length trail in the desert up to views of the Cabo bay
- Punta Pescadero – short route but potentially good whale watching views
- Old Port of Todos Santos – moderate hike with great views
- Cerro Punta Lobos – easy to follow trail with great views
➡️ Ubers are typically pretty safe in Cabo and a convenient way to get where you need to go, but they can get expensive and I personally hate them here
🤙 Other Hiking Options In/Near Cabo San Lucas

Since safety can be a concern, I prefer to do hiking in Mexico with others, and luckily Cabo San Lucas and the surrounding area have a few options:
- The Cabo Dog Hike – one of the most popular hiking trails right in Cabo San Lucas but you have to go with Enrique
- Cabo San Lucas Waterfall Hike – find several hidden waterfalls out away from town with one of my favorite tour companies in Cabo
- Sierra de la Laguna – hiking tour with stops to a local ranch and a natural spring
- Hot Springs Hike – hiking tour in Los Cabos with both cold water river pools and natural hot springs
- Fox Canyon – hiking tour with a waterfall
- Natural Reserve & Farm – river hiking adventure in the Los Cabos area surrounding Cabo San Lucas with lunch at a local family’s ranch
- Todos Santos at Sunset – 7 hour day with transport from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos for this sunset hiking adventure
- Night Patrol Turtle Conservation – not a traditional hike, but a unique experience contributing to the conservation of Sea Turtles with a marine biologist
➡️ Since it can get pretty hot in Cabo, the best time to visit for hiking is in the winter or spring seasons to avoid the major heat
🔁 Sum Up: Hiking In Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
I went hiking on my last trip to Cabo San Lucas, and although it can be super hot (depending on the time of year) and a bit challenging with the strenuous uphill mountain terrain, I enjoyed my exploration out in nature here and I plan to do more the next time I’m in this part of Mexico.
