Looking For A Detailed Review Of The Surf Expedition Tour With Good Trips Baja In Los Cabos, Mexico?

As a frequent repeat visitor to Mexico (especially Cabo), my last visit to the Los Cabos area included a surf trip with Max from Good Trips Baja, and it was honestly one of the best tours I’ve ever been on for the price, the surf adventure, the quality of the tour, my guide Max, and the non-touristy feel this company provides (more details on each of these below).

✅ Why I Highly Recommend The Good Trips Baja Surf Tour

Especially when visiting Mexico, I’ve found that many tour companies are all about the price and quantity of the tours they do, not the quality of them. Good Trips Baja does not fit into that category, but instead offers incredible tours that support locals, don’t disrupt the land or wildlife, and let visitors experience the real side of the Los Cabos area.

➡️ Good Trips Baja also has some hiking tours

The Price

The price for their surf expedition was way better than competing companies.

The Los Cabos area is not known as the typical cheap Mexico destination, so tours often cater to those more expensive American prices. Good Trips Baja however, offers high quality tours for a much much more reasonable price compared to other tour companies in the area.

For example, their full day (10 hours) surf expedition currently costs around $100 per person, where other tour companies charge $185+ for 6-ish hours.

The Privacy

The privacy of this tour is just another reason it's one of the best options.

Unlike most tour companies that will stick you with others (which isn’t always bad but sometimes it can be), the Good Trips Baja surf expedition has a maximum of 6 people and they’ll still take you out even if you’re the only one (I was the only one surfing and there was one other with me just watching).

The Quality

The quality of the Good Trips Baja surf expedition way outweighs any other tour company with similar options.

As I mentioned earlier with the price, their surf expedition beats the competition not only in cost but most importantly in quality.

Before traveling to Cabo, I talked with a number of surf tour companies and every single one, except Good Trips Baja, gave me the creeps. The others just felt super sketchy and even some reviews mentioned similar feelings.

Choosing this tour over others was a great decision because I could tell they really cared about adventuring and exploring the Los Cabos area with me because that’s what they love to do themselves.

The Guide

Max was a great guide and a super helpful surf friend.

My guide Max (pictured above) also made this surf tour fantastic because of his local knowledge as well as his surf knowledge. Some tours are like “here’s a surfboard, go surf”, but Max was right there with me the whole time, making sure I was catching waves and not feeling lonely out there by myself.

The Surf Adventure

The surfing adventure with Good Trips Baja was one of the best I've ever had.

Of course my favorite part of this tour was the actual surfing! Cabo is known to be a pretty great year round surfing destination, but during the summer (when I went), it’s supposed to be the best.

I got a little unlucky with the weather and had a super windy day that made the waves more rough than they usually are during this time, but with Max’s help, I rode some of the best waves of my life so far (pictured above)!

The Non-Touristy Feel

Most tours in Mexico are very touristy feeling, but this was much more of a local experience.

As I mentioned before, in my experience, a lot of tours in Mexico are pretty touristy and not so concerned with quality (which is true of tours all over the world), but Max’s tour is the complete opposite.

If you want a more local experience that supports a small business and enjoys nature without disrupting it, Good Trips Baja is the company for you. It’s honestly one of the best and most authentic tour companies I’ve ever adventured with.

❌ The Downsides Of The Surf Tour

There really wasn’t a single downside to my surf expedition, except for how incredibly sore I was the next day 😆!

One thing we didn’t have that they forgot to mention to us before we left on the tour was bringing our own towels, but other than that, they thought of everything and provided a fantastic experience.

*️⃣ Tip: If you worry about sharks or they keep you from going in the ocean, I recommend Sharkbanz (I love mine) to help give you a little more peace of mind in the water

🏄 My Personal Experience On The Good Trips Baja Surf Tour

The La Fortuna surf experience I had was incredible even though the waves were pretty difficult that day.

Max came straight to my hotel (one of my favorites here in Cabo) to pick me up early in the morning and begin my day full of surfing. He took us out away from the Los Cabos area to a more secluded beach (La Fortuna) to avoid crowds and find better waves.

After picking up a different sized surfboard he thought would fit me better, we drove out onto the beach and parked right there where we would be surfing (pictured below).

Good Trips Baja is one of the best tour companies I've dealt with and they offer an amazing surf expedition.

He checked my surf knowledge on the beach and gave me some safety information (because Cabo waters can be dangerous) before heading out into the water.

We spent a good amount of time in the water catching waves (some of the best I’ve ever done!) and he helped me every step of the way. I needed a little break because the wind was making paddling so tough, so we went in to sit and eat a snack after this first session.

➡️ Tip: when I was getting out of the water, the break on the shore sucked me back out then crashed a wave on top of me and tumbled me around a bit (scraping up my knees), so be extra careful because this is common in Cabo

The little cafe on the beach had wonderful views.

After resting a bit, we paddled back out (even though I was already incredibly sore) and surfed a little more. The waves were getting bigger and rougher (Max estimated one I rode was at least 6 feet), and Max’s surfboard strap even broke carrying his board all the way back in.

I had to sit out in the water alone for a few minutes while he got a new strap, but he hurried as fast as he could to get back out with me.

After a few more tries, my body couldn’t take anymore so we headed in and drove over to the little cafe on the beach (pictured above).

The tour experience with Good Trips Baja was beyond fantastic and I highly recommend them.

We ate at a wonderful spot looking out onto the beach (though it was a bit expensive) then started to head back in to Los Cabos. On the way out of La Fortuna, we saw some wild donkeys so Max pulled over and fed them some bananas so we could see them close to the car (pictured above).

It was an incredible surf day that felt like going out with a friend who was super helpful and encouraging the whole time!

➡️ Tip: I also recommend checking out Cuadra San Francisco for the best horseback riding experience in Cabo

🔁 Sum Up: The Good Trips Baja Surf Tour

After speaking with a number of other sketchy-seeming tour companies, I chose to go with Good Trips Baja for my surf expedition and it was the best decision because of the price, the quality of the tour, the guide, the privacy, the actual surfing, the non-touristy feel, and the fact that I was supporting a small business that enjoys nature without disrupting it.
