Is Uber In Cabo Mexico? (Yes, But Here’s Why I Hate It)
Planning Your Trip To Cabo, Mexico But Wondering How To Get Around Or If Uber Is Available Here?
Uber is available in Cabo, Mexico and I’ve personally used it a bunch of times when visiting here, but I can’t stand it most of the time and there are a few scenarios where it won’t be available or the best option (more details on all of this below).
๐ฒ๐ฝ Where Is Uber Available In Cabo, Mexico?

Uber is available in and around most of the Los Cabos area (which includes Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo), but like many places around Mexico, it isn’t always allowed everywhere.
Typically, Uber hasn’t been allowed at airports in Mexico and many resort-style hotels won’t allow Uber to pickup at the hotel (it just depends on each location), but I really wouldn’t recommend using Uber to/from airports in Mexico anyways.
โ Is Uber Safe In Cabo, Mexico?

Although Cabo, Mexico sometimes gets a bad reputation when it comes to safety in general, typically Uber is a safe transportation option, but I have personally experienced some sketchy situations here and this ride share service hasn’t always had a positive past.
Last time I was in Cabo, I requested an Uber and received all the information for it (car, license plate, name, etc.), but a car pulled up with an incorrect license plate and the driver started yelling that he was my Uber. He said he has a bunch of different license plates he uses, which didn’t make it any better, so I did not get in the car with him and I reported the situation.
I’ve also had Uber drivers keep the ride going in the app to continue getting paid after I’ve already gotten out of the car.
โ Why I Hate Uber In Cabo

Besides that sketchy experience I had here, these are a few other reasons why I can’t stand Uber in Cabo, Mexico:
- many of the cars are beat up and nasty
- 90% of the cars I’ve gotten in here have absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke and with my sensory sensitivities this is the number one reason why I can’t stand Uber here
- the cost of Uber in Cabo has gotten ridiculous; if you’re staying in Cabo but want to eat at a restaurant in San Jose, you can’t get there for under $30 US and all drivers expect tips now too
- it’s not uncommon for drivers to keep the ride going after you get out of the car so they keep getting paid
- because Cabo is such a touristy destination (especailly for Americans) it often feels like everyone everywhere is just trying to take advantage of you, including Ubers
๐ Other Options To Use In Cabo, Mexico (Besides Uber)

If you feel like avoiding Uber entirely or for the most part during your trip to Cabo, Mexico, here are a few other ways to get around that I recommend:
- Cabo has some of the nicest roads in all of Mexico so it would be one of the easiest places to drive yourself in this country; if you feel comfortable, try renting a car here to get yourself around easily
- taxis are available in Cabo and official/certified ones can be safe if you need them, but taxis are typically more expensive and I especially don’t recommend them from the airport (taxi drivers will bombard you at the airport here)

- to avoid airport problems, private transfers that wait for you with a name card are great, plus it’s not the best idea to put all your belongings in an Uber; I’ve always used Cabo Incredible Locations and they’ve been great (even allowing us to make a stop at the grocery store), but there are plenty of transfers to choose from
- tours are great for exploring, but I recommend being choosy with tour companies because many don’t seem to care much about people, nature, or wildlife; companies I do recommend are Good Trips Baja & Cuadra San Francisco & Whale Watch Cabo, and on viator I’d stick to highly rated companies and check reviews to see how they operate
๐ Sum Up: Is Uber In Cabo, Mexico?
Although Uber is available in Cabo, Mexico and it is typically safe (just be cautious), it can be a bit expensive depending on where you’re going and 90% of the time I’ve had terrible rides with smelly and dirty cars, so I personally can’t really handle Uber here. Cabo is one of the easiest places to drive in Mexico so renting a car can be a good option, or there are plenty of tours and private transportation options available that will take you all over Baja California.
