Visiting Miami And Wondering If The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Is Worth A Visit?

During my time living in South Florida, one of the very first little exploration trips I took was down to Miami to see some sites like the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. I definitely thought Vizcaya was worth the visit at least once because I enjoy beautiful architecture and beautiful grounds, but some might find it not worth the price for a few reasons (listed in detail below).

⛲️ Is The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Worth A Visit?

The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is one of Miami’s most popular sites that is definitely worth a visit for those interested in history, beautiful architecture, beautiful landscapes, and photography.

Pros Of The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

It is a really beautiful place to visit, but it's also a little expensive just to look around an old house.

✅ The History Of The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

South Florida doesn’t have many historical places to visit, so the fact that Vizcaya is more than 100 years old, makes it one of the most interesting historical sites to see here in Miami.

✅ The Notoriety Of Vizcaya

One reason many find the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens worth the visit is because of its fame and notoriety, especially from its number of appearances in Hollywood films (most notably Iron Man 3, Bad Boys 2, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective).

✅ The Beautiful Grounds & Architecture

The beautiful grounds and architecture of Vizcaya was my main draw and the reason why I think it is worth a visit at least once to get some beautiful photos and really appreciate the work that was put into this old mansion.

The grounds and architecture here are the main reasons to visit.

✅ The Special Events

While a ticket is required to enter the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, the Vizcaya Village holds many weekly events that are much cheaper or even free (like the Vizcaya Village Nights, Eco-Friendly Painting Workshops, A Farmers Market, and even Yoga).

✅ Convenient Location

The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is very conveniently located in Miami with downtown to one side and the Coconut Grove/Coral Gables area to the other, also with plenty of restaurants and hotels near to the museum.

Cons Of The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens might not be worth a visit for the price if you're not that into beautiful architecture or pretty landscaping.

Although I think the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is worth a visit at least once, there are a few things that might make it not seem worth visiting for those not super interested in what Vizcaya has to offer:

❌ Vizcaya isn’t the cheapest site to visit, it’s around $25, so some might find this a bit steep just to walk around an old mansion

❌ Vizcaya is a popular tourist site so a crowd of people might take away from the beauty of the mansion

❌ It’s a very hot place to visit during the summer months; I visited in July and I couldn’t wait to get over to the beach so I could cool off in the water

❌ Vizcaya is a popular event, wedding, and even filming location so this could mess with your plans of when to visit or what areas are available during your visit

👉 My Review Of The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

I visited the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens shortly after moving to South Florida in the month of July, and although I think it is worth at least one visit, I would recommend visiting in cooler months of the year if possible.

My Experience At Vizcaya:

the first nice thing is that the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens offers free parking (on the east and west sides of the property), which is especially nice in this part of Miami

I went fairly early in the morning, not long after they opened, to avoid the hotter temperatures and higher number of people

I walked the grounds first, so I could get good photos since there were so few people there at this time

even though it was earlier in the day, it got super hot while walking the grounds, which was nice to see so many active iguanas and other lizards, but also made me ready to leave and go to the beach

the inside was really nice, historical, and informative, but I went through it pretty quickly because I was ready to cool off and I was most interested in the outdoor areas

*️⃣ Tip: although it’s also a bit touristy, don’t leave Miami without going out on an airboat tour or at least just visiting the Everglades to search for some famous Florida wildlife

🔁 Sum Up: Is The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Worth A Visit?

I personally think that the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is worth a visit for anyone that enjoys history, beautiful designs, and photography, or just wants to see something interesting and unique to Miami while visiting. There’s not many historical buildings in South Florida, so although the price might seem a bit high, Vizcaya is worth checking out just to see one of Miami’s most iconic locations.
