Is Houston Texas Worth Visiting (Is There Even Anything To Do Here)?
Planning A Trip To Texas And Wondering If The NASA Base City Of Houston Is Worth Visiting?
I’ve moved around a lot in my life, but the place I’ve lived the longest total combined number of years is Texas (in 4 different areas), so I’m very familiar with major cities like Houston all the way down to small towns in East Texas, and although I have my personal preferences on which places would be the best to visit, here are all the details to help you decide if Houston is worth visiting on your next trip to Texas.
๐ Is Houston, Texas Worth Visiting?

After living in Texas for many many years, in multiple different areas, I can say that Houston is not typically known as the best place to visit or live among many Texans.
It doesn’t really have a lot going for it, but there may still be a few reasons why you might find Houston, Texas worth visiting.
Why You Should Visit

Although there aren’t too many reasons that can personally get me to Houston, here are a few things that might make this Texas city worth visiting:
- NASA Space Center – by far the main (and maybe only) reason to visit Houston is that you can go to NASA’s Space Center; it’s a little southeast of the city but it’s pretty easy to get to, especially with ticket and transportation combo tours
- Sporting Events – because Houston has one of the nicest and biggest stadiums in Texas (along with Dallas’ AT&T Stadium), a lot of big sporting events take place here so that could be one reason to visit; I saw Messi play for the first time here in Houston at the NRG Stadium
- Golf – if you’re a golfer, Houston has some of the top golf courses in the state, mostly in the north part of the city (particularly in The Woodlands)
- Nature – Houston is pretty hot and muggy, but there are still a few outdoorsy nature things you can do
- Brazos Bend Wildlife and Nature Tour with Blake Dyer
- Like Austin, Houston also gets the bat residents and you kayak to see them with this tour by Buffalo Bayou Kayak Tours
- since Houston is so large, there are tons of hiking trails you can check out, but not sure they’d be super interesting
Why It Might Not Be Worth Visiting

Basically the things listed above are about the only things to do in Houston, Texas so other than that, I don’t think this city is really worth visiting.
It’s hot and humid, overcrowded, not very interesting, and not very fun, so I personally don’t think Houston is really worth checking out, except for a super quick stop to see the NASA Space Center.
๐ How Many Days Do You Need In Houston?

Because there is not much to do in Houston, I don’t think you need very much time here outside of attending special events (like sports games), so I think two days is more than enough.
If you have a car, from Houston, it is easy to continue on to other parts of Texas (like Austin, San Antonio, Waco, Dallas, and Fort Worth), or go the other direction into Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama.
๐ Sum Up: Is Houston, Texas Worth Visiting?
I personally don’t think Houston is the best place to visit in Texas, because there’s not too much to do here, but since the NASA space center is located a little south of the city, it can be worth visiting just to see this historic and scientific center. I don’t think you need much time in Houston if you do visit, but it can also be a good place to continue exploring Texas or the South.
