Looking For More Info On The Club America Soccer Team & How To Go To A Game In Mexico City?

On my first visit to Mexico City over a decade ago, I randomly chose to attend a Club America soccer game because it fit in with my schedule, but I ended up becoming a huge fan of the team and I’ve traveled back multiple times just to go to their games, so I made up this guide to help make it easier to figure out how to go to their games and experience this special part of Mexican culture.

🦅 How To Find A Club America Game To Attend

While Club America mostly plays in Mexico (in the Liga MX), there are a few tournaments that take them out of the country like the Leagues Cup, the Concacaf Champions Cup, or even the US friendly Tour Águila games.

Where Does Club America Play

The teams home stadium is Estadio Azteca, but it's currently undergoing renovations for the 2026 World Cup.

When they play in Mexico, Club America’s home stadium is Estadio Azteca (now called Estadio Banorte; one of the best and biggest in the Western Hemisphere) in the south part of Mexico City. All of Club America’s home games are played here, unless there’s any construction or other special circumstances (like the renovations for the 2026 World Cup).

For the regular Liga MX season, Club America travels all over the country for away games, and they do play out of the country in some tournaments, like the ones listed earlier.

Club America Game Schedule

Going to a Club America game in Mexico City is definitely worth it, especially big rivalry games like ones against Chivas.

During the typical soccer season, Club America plays a game almost every weekend and sometimes an additional one midweek.

Club America Liga MX Schedule:

  • Opening Season (Apertura): typically from July to early December with playoffs immediately after (that last about a month)
  • Closing Season (Clausura): typically from early January to early May (playoffs also immediately after)

⚽️ How To Go To A Club America Game In Mexico City

Mexico City is a big and bustling metropolitan area that can be a bit intimidating, so these are all the details you need to know to easily attend a Club America soccer game here.

How To Get Club America Tickets

There are two ways to get tickets to Club America games, depending on the type of game it is.

There are two ways to get tickets to Club America soccer games in Mexico City depending on the type of game:

  • At The Gate: when playing an easier and/or bottom of the league team, tickets can be bought at the gate just before the start of the game (but still be there early to get in line)
  • Online: big rivalry, high competition, and playoff games need to be purchased online in advance (for the Chivas game I went to, their biggest rival, I purchased through StubHub & picked up at a hotel the day before)

How To Get To The Stadium

I recommend Uber, private transfers, or certified taxi’s to get to the stadium before the game because they’re safer, easier, and still pretty cheap. Public transportation is available, but it’s typically not as safe and usually very crowded (and not great for those with sensory issues).

How To Do Your Fan ID (required)

The rivalry games like this Chivas vs Club America game, are the best and most exciting games to attend.

Before attending any soccer game in Mexico (including Club America games), you must complete the Fan ID to enter the stadium:

  • go to https://fanliga.mx
  • click “Go to Incode ID Wallet”
  • (on computers) input your phone number to get a link to continue registration on your phone
  • click “Register”, input your phone number (be sure to change it to wherever you’re coming from), and accept the terms
  • a verification code will be sent to your phone, input that code to continue
  • take a picture of your identification card (you can also use a passport)
  • info from your pictures will be entered into the system, double check it and fill in any blanks
  • take a clear photo of your face
  • it may take a minute, but then accept the privacy terms and click to activate the Incode ID Wallet
  • the QR code should be ready; use this to enter the stadium

How To Leave The Stadium (safely)

Games typically end once it’s dark out, so to be extra safe, I highly recommend avoiding taxis and upgrading Uber or preparing private transfers ahead of time to quickly get a ride and keep from standing out on the street too long (it’s not the safest area at night).

🪺 Where Does Club América Practice?

You may be able to see players or even watch them practice at the Club America training facility.

If you really become a big fan of Club America (like me), you can visit their training facility just a few minutes up from the stadium (nicknamed Coapa or el nido), and maybe get the chance to see players driving in or actually go inside and watch the team practice (let the guards know you’re visiting from out of the country and they might let you in).

ℹ️ Other Things To Know About Club America

They are the most popular and successful team in Mexico, but also the most hated by other fans.
  • Club America is one of the most hated (their slogan is “Ódiame Más”/hate me more) and most loved teams in Mexico (with 10 million+ fans)
  • they have some of the best soccer players in the Western Hemisphere, as the team’s considered a jumping point for many players to get to Europe
  • their name originates from the day the club was founded (in 1916) when a player suggested “América” because it was Columbus Day
  • their mascot is the eagle (Las Águilas) and their three biggest rivals are Chivas, Cruz Azul, & Pumas
  • they are the most successful team in Mexico with 16 Liga MX titles, 6 Copa MX titles, and 7 CONCACAF titles

*️⃣ Tip: soccer games in Mexico City can be loud, smelly, & crowded, if you have sensory issues like me, I recommend headphones, rain jackets/ponchos (for rain or flying beer), and nicer seats to avoid some overstimulation

🔁 Sum Up: Going To A Club America Game

Club America is the greatest team in Mexico, not just because their my favorite, but because they actually back it up with trophies and titles, so if you’re visiting Mexico City and you want to really experience Mexican culture and be entertained by the most talented team in the country, I highly recommend checking out a game (especially a big rivalry game like the one against Chivas).
