Traveling To Cartagena, Colombia And Wondering How To Get To The Famous Playa Blanca From The City?
When I was living in Colombia I took a trip up to Cartagena and I heard that one of the most popular places to visit just outside of the city was the beach Playa Blanca, but because I was on a Colombian salary, I wanted to find the cheapest and easiest way to get there from the city so I looked at all the possibilities.
🚌 Is It Hard To Get From Cartagena, Colombia To Playa Blanca?
Playa Blanca is located just under an hour from the center of Cartagena, so it’s actually a pretty easy place to get to, but there are a few different ways you can get there depending on how much you want to spend.
How To Get From Cartagena To Playa Blanca On Your Own
The absolute cheapest way to get from Cartagena to Playa Blanca is by using the public bus transportation system. It will only cost about 3000 pesos (or under $1) one way, but busses aren’t as convenient, especially for those that don’t speak Spanish.
You could also opt for a taxi or Uber ride to the beach (Uber is usually the safer and cheaper way to get around Cartagena), but this can get expensive at least for Colombia (about $20 each way) and you could have trouble finding a ride back.
The Easiest Way To Get There
Although it’s completely doable to get to Playa Blanca from Cartagena on your own, the easiest and most convenient way to get there is definielty on a guided tour since there are so many options.

🏝 Is Playa Blanca Worth Visiting From Cartagena, Colombia?
I thought Playa Blanca was pretty and I was glad that I took the day trip over there from Cartagena, but I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute must (although I would also say the same about Cartagena since there are just so many other beautiful places in Colombia).
It’s very touristy over at Playa Blanca (and in Cartagena in general) so it can be pretty annoying to constantly have someone trying to sell you something, but as far as beaches go in the Cartagena area, it is one of the prettiest.
🏖 Are Cartagena Beaches Nice?
The beaches right next to the main part of Cartagena are nothing special (pictured above) and they’re no where near as pretty as the Playa Blanca one, plus they’re equally as touristy so between the two beaches, I’d go for the prettier beach option.

Since it’s one of the most popular places to visit near Cartagena, Colombia, it’s actually really easy to get to Playa Blanca and you can do it the really cheap way on the bus, the private convenient way with an Uber, or the middle cheap and convenient option on a guided tour.
