What Kind Of Wildlife & Marine Life Can You See In Cabo Mexico
Traveling To Cabo, Mexico But Wondering What Kind Of Wildlife You Can See Here And How Can You See It?
I’ve been to Cabo, Mexico a couple of times and seen some really exciting wildlife and marine life here, but there are so many animals that permanently or seasonally inhabit this part of Baja California so there are still plenty that I hope to see on my future visits.
🐳 What Kind Of Wildlife Can You See In Cabo, Mexico?

Depending on the time of year, there is tons of different wildlife and marine life that you can see in the Cabo area, and even more if you go further up north into Baja California towards areas like La Paz, Mexico.
*️⃣ The amount of wildlife you can see here is one of the main reasons why I think Cabo is worth visiting
Marine Life In Cabo San Lucas

Cabo and the Sea of Cortez in general have some of the worlds best marine life viewing, but it does heavily depend on the time of year (more details on when you can see these animals later).
Depending on when you visit, some marine life you can see in Cabo and nearby in other parts of Baja California include (but is not limited to):
- Whales – definitely one of Cabo’s main marine life draws are the whales and there are plenty of seasonal tours to see them; common visitors include Orca, False Orca, Sperm Whale, Humpback Whales, Grey Whales, Blue Whales, Whale Sharks, and Fin Whales
- Rays – Cabo and further up into the Sea of Cortez are amazing places to spot many different kinds of rays; commonly Giant Manta Rays, Sting Rays, and the exciting jumping Mobula Rays (there are tours to see them too)
*️⃣ FAQ: Mobula Rays are one of the Cabo areas most interesting wildlife seasonal inhabitants because they come flying out of the water, flapping their bodies, and smacking back down on the surface; there is still a lot of debate as to why the Mobula Rays jump out of the water like this, but whatever the reason, it’s definitely a cool sight to see in Cabo
- Sharks – although most typically want to stay away from sharks, there are actually shark safari tours in Cabo because there are so many interesting kinds of sharks like White Tip Sharks, Mako Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Whale Sharks, Blue Sharks, Silky Sharks, and Bull Sharks
- Other Marine Life – other common marine life that you could possible see in Cabo include Sea Lions, Dolphins, Turtles, Octopus, Eels, Jellyfish, and Bait Balls
Other Wildlife In Baja California

On land, the Cabo area still has lots of different wildlife you can potentially spot, although marine life is the main draw here.
- Birds – surprisingly for a desert landscape, there are lots of different and colorful birds in Cabo; I’ve seen plenty of different kinds here
- Reptiles/Arachnids – being a deserty landscape, Cabo San Lucas has many reptile inhabitants including iguanas, lizards, scorpions, and yes, venomous snakes (like the rattlesnake)
- Other Wildlife – some other wild land animals you might see in Cabo include donkeys, chipmunks, ring-tailed cat, coyotes, foxes, mountain lions, bobcats, raccoons, and deer
*️⃣ FAQ: There are not any crocodiles in the Cabo San Lucas or Baja California areas; the place in Mexico with wild crocodiles is the Cancun area
📆 When Can You See Wildlife In Cabo, Mexico?

Specifically when it comes to marine life in Cabo, Mexico, there are different seasons for when you are more likely to see them. There are months that are generally better, but sometimes the conditions (water, food source, etc.) can change that.
During Cabo’s “slower” marine life season (the summer), I’ve visited in June, July, and August and still seen some incredible wildlife (like the Mobula Rays jumping), so sometimes you never know what you might be able to see.
General wildlife/marine life seasons in Cabo, Mexico:
- Mobula Rays Season – typically you can see them in Cabo from April through August, but the height is May
- Cabo Whale Season – possible between November and April, but best times are mid-December through March
- Whale Shark Season – typically November through April with peak times in December, January, and February
- Orca Season – generally from December through April, peaking in January, February, and March
- Blue Shark Season – one of the more rare species coming to Cabo between April and December
- other marine life can be seen in Cabo anytime of year (like dolphins, sea lions, turtles, bull sharks, etc.), but if you head further north into the Sea of Cortez these seasons are often extended with potential whale and ray sightings extending through August
➡️ If you want more exciting outdoor adventures in Cabo, I recommend trying surfing, horseback riding, snorkeling, and hiking here

Although you have to visit during certain times of the year, the wildlife and marine life that you can see in Cabo, Mexico is incredible and just the little bit I’ve seen here in Baja California was amazing.
